Karen Yu, LMFT
Through my years working with people, I enjoyed witnessing their transformation into more confident and happier people. It takes a lot of courage to seek therapy and I understand that it can be difficult to start therapy. There will be times when the emotional pain is too much. My goal is to support you in your mental health and let you know that you do not have to go through the pain alone.
As a graduate of UC Berkeley, I understand the pressures and demands that comes with excelling in a competitive environment. After I graduated, I wanted to pursue a graduate degree in psychology that allowed me to go beyond just talk therapy. I am fortunate to be a graduate of John F. Kennedy University with a holistic psychology degree. It’s one of the few programs in America that offered a mind, body and spiritual orientation to psychology.
My life’s work has been to learn different therapy approaches to heal people’s emotional suffering. With over 10 years of training, I have learned strategies to assist people dealing with shame, fear and not feeling enough. I tailor your therapy according to your needs and use various approaches to help you reach your goals.
My style is warm, friendly and interactive with a mixture of fun humor and honest feedback. Also, I welcome feedback from my clients to let me know what I can do to be most supportive for them.
What is Holistic Counseling Psychology?

My Core Guiding Principles when you work with me is to treat you with kindness and honor your trust in me to handle your vulnerability with tender and gentle care. Below is a video by Brene Brown addressing my core principles and to let you know that choosing the right therapist means making sure you will feel comfortable in sharing your vulnerability. My intention is to create an atmosphere so that you will.
